New World Villages, as stated many times on our website, believes strongly the path out of poverty begins with providing a good education to the children. With that in mind, we approached our library build goal in two ways; we volunteered to help finish a library being built in the Mayan village of San Pedro Columbia as well as provided 70% of the funding for the next library to be built in another village. Our partners on this project, as is the case with most of our larger projects, were the local villagers as well as our friends in the St. Peter Claver parish headed by Fr. Dick Perl, a Jesuit priest. The work on the library was hard and weather conditions were typical of that region: hot!
